Move it along as you read. Your friends see the number, nothing else.

Write a note when something happens
Write about chapter nine the night you finish it. A friend on chapter four sees that a note is waiting, not what it says. It opens when they get there.

It runs the club
It reminds people who fall behind, checks in if the club goes quiet, and puts the meeting on the calendar. When everyone has finished, it helps you pick the next one.
