EpyLog turns the movies you like into books, and runs book clubs. This page says what it keeps about you, what that is for, who else sees it, and how to delete it. It is written to be read.

What EpyLog keeps

Your answers. The movies you rate, the books you mark as read or not for you, and anything you import from Letterboxd, Netflix or IMDb. A Netflix or IMDb export is read in your browser and only the titles and ratings are sent; the file itself never leaves your computer. A Letterboxd import reads your public Letterboxd page.

Your email address, if you give one. That is the account. There is no password; signing in is a link sent to that address. Your email is used to send you your shelf, club mail, and sign-in links, and for nothing else. EpyLog does not sell it or hand it to anyone for their own marketing.

Your club. Its name, the book, the chapter or page you say you are on, the notes you write, and your replies. Notes are visible to the people in your club once they reach the point in the book where you wrote them, and to nobody else unless the organizer lists the club on the front page, which shows only the club’s name, its book and how far along it is.

A photo of your bookshelf, if you send one. It is used once, to read the titles on it, and is not stored; only the count of books found is kept.

How the site is used. Which pages load, which buttons are pressed, and where you came from, tied to a random session id. This is how EpyLog learns what works and what does not.

Who else sees it

The recommendations are written by a third-party AI model. It receives the titles and ratings you have given, and the photo if you send one. It does not receive your email address or your name.

EpyLog runs on Vercel, stores its data with Supabase, caches with Upstash and sends mail with Resend. Each of them handles data on EpyLog’s behalf and under contract, and none of them may use it for anything else.

Book covers and movie posters load from Amazon, Open Library, Apple, Google Books and The Movie Database. Like any image on the web, those servers see your IP address when the picture loads.

Buy links go to Amazon and carry an affiliate tag. EpyLog earns a commission on what you buy after clicking one. Once you are on Amazon, Amazon’s own privacy policy applies.

Cookies, analytics and ads

EpyLog itself sets one cookie, ep_cc, which holds the two-letter country the request came from so that buy links can point at your own Amazon store. Your sign-in lives in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie, and lasts 180 days.

EpyLog uses Google Analytics to count visits and Google Ads to measure and place advertising. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads based on someone’s past visits to this site, and to show EpyLog’s ads on other sites across the internet. Google uses the information to measure which ads led to a visit or a sign-up and to show EpyLog’s ads to people who have been here before.

You can opt out of Google’s use of cookies for personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings, out of many vendors at once at aboutads.info, and out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.

Deleting it

Open your profile in the app and choose Delete everything. Your ratings, books, shelves, notes and email are removed at once. A club you organized passes to its longest-standing member so the others can keep reading; if you were the only person in it, it closes.

Every email EpyLog sends has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. Club mail can be turned off on its own.

If you would rather write, send a note to hello@epylogapp.com from the address on the account and it will be done by hand.

The rest

EpyLog is not for children under 13 and does not knowingly keep anything about them. If you think a child has made an account, write and it will be removed.

Data is stored in the United States. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you can ask for a copy of what EpyLog holds about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted, by writing to the address above.

If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it.
